Members of Issue One’s ReFormers Caucus Praise Bipartisan January 6 Investigation

The House select committee tasked with investigating the Jan. 6 attackAn Open Letter from Members of Issue One’s Bipartisan ReFormers Caucus Applauding Reps. Cheney, Kinzinger, and all the Members of the Select Committee on the January 6 Attack for their Leadership

On January 6, 2021, a violent mob interrupted and undermined the peaceful transition of power, dealing lasting damage to our democratic norms and institutions. The lives of law enforcement and others were lost, while countless more are still grappling with lasting trauma from the attack. While Issue One has advocated for a bipartisan, 9/11-style independent commission to investigate the events of January 6, this attack urgently demands a thorough, objective investigation. All of the Members of the U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack are using their authority to effectively pursue that mission, and we write to express our gratitude for their leadership.

As the Select Committee continues its bipartisan investigation, we as members of Issue One’s ReFormers Caucus — a bipartisan coalition made up of more than 200 former members of Congress, governors, and Cabinet officials — commend Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) for his formation and stewardship of the Committee. As former members, we know firsthand how essential bipartisan cooperation is for the preservation of our republic and our shared values, and we strongly commend the contributions of Republican members Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. We sincerely hope other Republicans will join efforts to pursue the truth and facts surrounding the events of January 6.

The January 6 assault presented both a warning and a call to action. The members of the Select Committee on the January 6 Attack are responding to this call by conducting a good-faith, bipartisan, and detailed investigation into the events of that day. Each of these members deserves our deepest thanks for their willingness to put country over party and prioritize our national security.

We encourage the Committee to continue this process of bipartisan leadership, cooperation, and transparency to obtain a full account of the facts and, most importantly, to ensure such an attack never happens again.

Sincerely,
